Don is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who has made a name for himself teaching guitar and bass while playing upright and electric bass in the Portland area professionally, since the mid-90s. He has toured, recorded and played many different shows in many different genres. Some highlights include playing in the premier version of the acclaimed, Tonya and Nancy: A Rock Opera. Touring and recording as the original bassist of Medicine For The People (with Nahko Bear) for four years, leading the critically acclaimed jazz group, Flatland, through three Origin Records CDs and numerous shows that included opening for Herbie Hancock, Charlie Hunter, Galactic, and Zony Mash. These adventures have taken him to stages like Bumbershoot, The main stage at the Oregon Country Fair to The House of Blues in Boston. He regularly plays at legendary Portland spots Jazz De Opus and the Crystal Ballroom. He has shared the stage with luminaries such as Julian Priester (Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland), Obo Addy, Ike Willis (Frank Zappa) and played for four years with Joe Travers (VaultMeister for the Zappa family and drummer for Zappa plays Zappa), to name a few. He was blessed to have been taken in by Portland’s rich African community and played for nine years with Master Drummer Chata Addy and had Nojeem Lasisi (of King Sunny Ade fame) in his group for years.
